What do Edward Norton, David Duchovny, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Tea Leoni and Gillian Anderson all have in common?

Answer: They let their dogs lick their faces.

What, you may say, is so special about that?  Doesn’t almost every dog owner get kisses from his or her stinky pooch?!

Sure, but these kisses are as good as gold.  Or at least as good as cash.

These kisses are part of the #LickMyFace campaign started by Target Zero, a non-profit organization that travels the United States in an effort to make all animal shelters “No-Kill”.

From their website:

Target Zero

Target Zero is a nonprofit working to get every shelter across the United States to zero-kill. Every year, close to three million adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized due to overcrowding. That’s not ok. Our team goes city to city mentoring shelter and animal welfare leaders to work together in getting their city to ‘zero’. We do this by teaching our proven-to-work Pyramid Program of ‘best practices’.

Launched in 2013, we’ve already gotten Waco, Texas and Huntsville, Alabama to zero-kill (wahoo!!) and have more cities on the way, but we won’t stop until every single city has stopped euthanizing healthy cats and dogs!

I don’t know about you, but that figure of almost three million dogs and cats being euthanized every year gives me the chills.  I can’t really even fathom that number, picturing all of the beautiful innocent creatures killed every year. Dogs and cats who just wanted, and deserved, a loving home. My heart breaks.

There must be another option, and thank goodness Target Zero is trying to find a way.

They need all the help they can get, and if letting my dog give me a bunch of sloppy, slightly stinky kisses can help Target Zero fulfill their mission, then who am I to argue?

Want to get involved?  It’s as easy as #LickMyFace. Make a video, explaining that you are taking part in the #LickMyFace challenge to help Target Zero make all United States animal shelters “No-Kill” and then donate $1 or more for every kiss your dog gives you.  Then challenge other dog owners you know to do the same.

Donate $60 or more and get a limited edition #LickMyFace dog hoodie or tee shirt (limited to US shipping addresses only)

Check out our #LickMyFace video as posted on the Boo Boo’s Best Facebook page and then take the challenge yourself!

And remember: We can save animals, one lick at a time.
